Church of Santa Eulalia d'Encamp
The Church of Santa Eulalia d'Encamp is one of the oldest and most significant religious sites in Andorra. This Romanesque church dates back to the 11th century and is dedicated to Saint Eulalia, the patron saint of the parish. The church is renowned for its beautifully preserved Romanesque bell tower, which stands at 23 meters and is considered one of the finest examples of Andorran Romanesque architecture. Inside, the church features a mix of Romanesque and Baroque elements, including a 17th-century altarpiece and a series of frescoes that depict biblical scenes. The church's serene atmosphere and historical significance make it a place of reflection and cultural interest. The surrounding churchyard is also notable for its ancient stone cross, which adds to the historical ambiance of the site. Hidden treasure: X-ray analysis revealed gold leaf fragments in the altar's original 12th-century paint. The bell tower contains a Visigothic-era stone repurposed from a 6th-century chapel found during renovations.
